Fact witnesses provide testimony about what they saw or experienced during a case. These are often nurses who were directly involved in a case or were observers.  Expert witnesses are called upon to provide their expertise in a specific field to help the court understand complex issues. They are expected to be objective and unbiased. They are often required to have specialized knowledge, skills, education, or experience in their field. An expert witness must retain specific qualifications, be able to present facts and opinions, and always remain professional, all the while keeping adherence to maintain standards and goals of excellence. Unlike nonexpert witnesses, who typically must state only factors, expert witnesses are called to testify for the exclusive purpose of stating an expert opinion about the specific content of the case. Our nurses have a broad and extensive knowledge regarding sexual assault (pediatric, adolescent, and adult), domestic violence, abuse, and other bodily injury. All nurses have been qualified as experts in South Carolina regarding death investigations, sexual assault of pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
