Meet Gina Goss | MSN-FN, RN, AFN-BC, SANE-A, SANE-P, F-ABMDI

Forensic nursing has never been just a career for me—it is my calling. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to caring for patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives while ensuring that compassionate care and the pursuit of justice go hand in hand.

Gina Goss

As a Master’s-prepared forensic nurse, board-certified Advanced Forensic Nurse, certified Adult/Adolescent and Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and Fellow of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators, I have devoted my professional life to advancing forensic healthcare through education, program development, leadership, and expert consultation. My experience spans forensic nursing, sexual assault examinations, medicolegal death investigation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the development of evidence-based policies and educational programs that strengthen healthcare organizations and improve patient outcomes.

I founded Southpaw Forensic Nurse Consulting with one mission in mind—to provide healthcare organizations with practical, evidence-based solutions that improve forensic practice while empowering the professionals who deliver that care. I believe education should extend far beyond the classroom. It should build confidence, strengthen clinical judgment, improve patient outcomes, and prepare professionals to respond with competence during some of the most challenging situations they will encounter.

Throughout my career, I have partnered with hospitals, healthcare systems, law enforcement agencies, coroner and medical examiner offices, prosecutors, victim advocacy organizations, and multidisciplinary teams to improve forensic services across diverse practice settings. Whether developing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) programs, creating policies and procedures, providing continuing education, mentoring forensic nurses, or consulting on complex medicolegal issues, my goal remains the same—to strengthen forensic healthcare while ensuring compassionate, patient-centered care.

My work also extends into medicolegal death investigation, where I collaborate with Coroner’s Offices to improve investigative practices, documentation, quality assurance, and forensic education. This unique combination of clinical forensic nursing and death investigation provides a comprehensive perspective that bridges healthcare and the medicolegal system, allowing me to support agencies with practical solutions grounded in both clinical excellence and investigative integrity.

One of my greatest passions is expanding access to forensic nursing education, particularly for rural and underserved communities. Every patient deserves access to specialized forensic care regardless of where they live, and every healthcare professional deserves the education and mentorship necessary to confidently provide that care. Through innovative education, program development, and consultation, I strive to help organizations overcome barriers and build sustainable forensic services that serve their communities for years to come.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: every patient deserves dignity, every investigation deserves integrity, and every healthcare professional deserves exceptional education. Those principles guide every consultation, every educational program, every policy I write, and every partnership I build.
